On this program we take a look at the life and music of Helen Wheels.
Her band performed at CBGB’s in New York during the height of the punk movement in the 70s.
But she was much more than just a rock singer –
She had a historic paranormal experience as a child
Wrote poetry and had a degree in English literature
Was a graduate of the French Fashion Institute in New York
She became a competitive bodybuilder,
Had her portrait drawn by famed underground cartoonist R. Crumb
and was still recording up to her untimely death at the age of 50.
On this profile we’ll hear from friends and family including her brother, author Peter Robbins, long time companion Albert Bouchard of Blue Oyster Cult. and sisters Tish & Snooky Bellomo of Manic Panic, as we paint a portrait of Helen Wheels who combined thoughtful study with an indomitable rebel spirit.
